A 70-year-old woman from Uganda, Safina Namukwaya, has reportedly given birth to twins after two years of barrenness.
This was confirmed by her doctor on Thursday, November 30, 2023, and the woman said it was a miracle.
The Uganda woman voiced out her happiness after giving birth on Wednesday, November 29, at a hospital in Kampala, where she received fertility treatment.
“This is an extraordinary achievement, delivering twins to Africa’s oldest mother at 70 years,” Doctor Edward Tamale Sali said.
“There is no way to express my joy at this moment.
“At 70 years when I’m considered weak, and here is a miracle of the twins,” she told AFP.
Additionally, Namukwaya said she previously gave birth to a girl in 2020, after being mocked as “cursed woman”.
She said her first husband had died in 1992, leaving her without children, and she met her current partner in 1996.
However, she lamented her disappointment as her current partner has not visited her in the hospital.
She guessed that it may be that he is scared of the responsibility of caring for twins.
