Group Urges Tinubu To Sack Minister Betta Edu After She Was Suspended

A group called Concerned Nigerians has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately sack the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

This is coming after the Minister reportedly transferred N585 million to the private bank account of Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola, a project accountant in the ministry.

This act landed her in immediate suspension on Monday, January 8, 2024.

Betta Edu’s suspension was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.

Ngelale said her suspension was in accordance to President Tinubu’s course to show the highest level of integrity.

“In line with his avowed commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the commonwealth of Nigerians…

President Bola Tinubu suspends the Minister of FMHAPA, Dr. Betta Edu, from office with immediate effect.

“He also directs the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the FMHAPA as well as one or more agencies thereunder.”

Additionally, President Tinubu set a panel to investigate the matter in order to win back lost confidence.

“This will eliminate all institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and win back lost public confidence in the initiative”, Tinubu said.
