Breaking: Appeal Court Sacks Popular PDP Governor

According to a report by The Whistler on Sunday, November 19, 2023, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sacked the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

The sacking was necessitated by the case filed by the APC governorship candidate, Nentawe Goshwe.

Goshwe’s case challenged the declaration of Mutfwang of the PDP as the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Caleb Mutfwang winner with 525, 299 votes, while Goshwe had 481, 370 votes.

Consequently, the APC candidate in Plateau State filed a suit against Mutfwang over irregularities in the PDP primary election where he emerged the party’s flag bearer.

However, the suit was nullified by the tribunal on the basis that it was an internal party affair.

Furthermore, Goshwe was resilient as he filed a suit in the Appeal Court, to nullify the tribunal judgement.

As a result, on Sunday, November 19, 2023, a panel of judges lead by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu ruled that the tribunal’s ruling was not in compliance with the Electoral Act.

“The Tribunal was highly inconsistent. The judgment of the Tribunal affirming the election of governor Caleb stands to be set aside.

“The appeal is hereby allowed. The issue is resolved in favour of the appellants.

“The first petitioner (appellant) is perfectly entitled to be returned as governor. INEC is directed to withdraw the certificate of return from Caleb,” the court held.
