“If You Go On Strike, I Won’t Pay You” – Wike Warns Abuja Doctors

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sounded a note of warning to the resident doctors in Abuja, saying that he won’t pay them if they any strike action.

The FCT Minister made the statement while addressing the Association of Resident Doctors in Abuja on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

The leader of the association, Rahman Olayinka, appraised the Minister on some of the challenges of the resident doctors, especially manpower, saying that some doctors have run away from their duties because of salary issues. He called it “the japa syndrome”.

In response, Nyesom Wike said: “In FCT, the monthly salary is 8 billion; I’m not talking about the recent increment. You are a medical doctor, sit down with them and make recommendations let’s see the ones we can do.

“Don’t threaten me about strike, you know I like it. When you go on strike, I save money. Even if you come back, I won’t pay. We will determine it in court without stress. We will see whether we can get fund to pay, but please do your work”.
