Sim Fubara Publicly States His Position On His Relationship With Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, reiterated his respect for his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, affirming that Wike remains his principal.

He made the statement during the rededication service of the 2023/2024 Legal Year of the Rivers State Judiciary.

The event, attended by both politicians, took place at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt.

Addressing the recent political turmoil in the state, Fubara begged Nyesom Wike for forgiveness, called for peace, emphasizing that progress in the oil-rich region depends on the peaceful coexistence of all stakeholders.

He expressed optimism that despite challenges, his administration would fulfill its promises to the people.

Fubara urged supporters not to use abusive language against opponents, distancing himself from any form of character defamation.

He acknowledged the trying times for the state, emphasizing the need to identify and overcome challenges in the pursuit of development.

In a conciliatory gesture, Fubara humorously appealed to the congregants to suspend recognizing guests to avoid potential conflicts.

The meeting marked the first public encounter between Fubara and Wike since the recent political discord.

Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, arrived late to the church service, exchanging a handshake with his successor before sitting together during the event.

Fubara assured the public that the political misunderstandings would pass, emphasizing the importance of unity in tackling challenges.

The governor’s commitment to maintaining a respectful relationship with his predecessor signals a potential shift towards reconciliation and stability in Rivers State politics.
