Wike And Fubara Crisis: How Gov. Fubara Almost Resigned

News updates trickling down the media reveals that the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, almost resigned amid the political crisis between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

According to reports, Fubara’s resignation would have occurred two weeks ago, but some Elders of Rivers State intervened.

He had reportedly switched off his phone and shut down all channels of communication at the peak of the crisis with Wike.

Sources within the Government House say Fubara’s earlier decision to resign is connected to the excess control exerted on him by former Governor Wike.

Recall that Nyesom Wike singlehandedly picked Fubara, who was the Accountant-General of Rivers State, to be his successor, and the decision didn’t please other people who wanted to contest for the office.

The sources also say that Wike decides on who Fubara appoints into political positions, what he says and does.

This has affected the governor’s decision making process and hindered him from taking measures that could lead to development in the state.

As the Wike and Fubara crisis continue, it remains to be seen how it will impact the political landscape in the state.
